During WWII, the U.S. government interred people of Japanese incestry in camps. Many of the issues raised by the Japanese internment are relevant today as the United States deals with mass incarceration and immigrant detention. Join us in this evening of events to explore these issues. Participants can pick and choose how they would like to participate. For planning purposes, we ask that you register in advance for the events that you plan to attend and registration is REQUIRED for some events.
EVENT 1: Discuss Korematsu vs. United States with the Center for Cultures, Languages and SocietiesWho's it for? Anyone interested in a lively discussion! EVENT 2: Featured Presentation - Mr. Sam MiharaWho's it for? Anyone who wants to learn more about Japanese Internment from someone who lived in one. Mr. Mihara is an American of Japanese ancestry. When he was a child, he and his family were moved into an internment camp during WWII. Now, he travels the country talking about his experience and relating it to mass incarceration and immigrant detention.Where is it?
