During WWII, the U.S. government interred people of Japanese incestry in camps. Many of the issues raised by the Japanese internment are relevant today as the United States deals with mass incarceration and immigrant detention. Join us in this evening of events to explore these issues. Participants can pick and choose how they would like to participate. For planning purposes, we ask that you register in advance for the events that you plan to attend and registration is REQUIRED for some events.

EVENT 1: Discuss Korematsu vs. United States with the Center for Cultures, Languages and Societies
Who's it for? Anyone interested in a lively discussion! The target audience are students, faculty, staff and teachers
Where is it? This event is in Building E, room E104 at FSCJ Kent Campus (3939 Roosevelt Blvd)
When is it? 4-5 PM on Monday, April 15
Registration required? No. Just encouraged.


EVENT 2: Featured Presentation - Mr. Sam Mihara
Who's it for? Anyone who wants to learn more about Japanese Internment from someone who lived in one. Mr. Mihara is an American of Japanese ancestry. When he was a child, he and his family were moved into an internment camp during WWII. Now, he travels the country talking about his experience and relating it to mass incarceration and immigrant detention.
Where is it? This event is in Building E, room E104 at FSCJ Kent Campus (3939 Roosevelt Blvd)
When is it? 5:15-6:15 PM on Monday, April 15
Registration required? No. Just encouraged.


EVENT 3: FSCJ Social and Behavioral Science Forum
Who's it for? College faculty, employees and K12 teachers.

Who's it for? College faculty and K12 Teachers
Where is it? This event is in Building D, room D120 at FSCJ Kent Campus (3939 Roosevelt Blvd)
When is it? 7:45-9:00 PM on Monday, April 15
Registration required? Yes. Registration is required for this event. This includes dinner in D120 from 4:15-4:45 and snacks at 7:45.
